Price portals based on data from retailers, FAST and Sitecore
In 2008 Aller wanted a platform to drive the new generation of their price comparison portales - EDBPriser.dk, HIFIPriser.dk, SPILPriser.dk and DVDPriser.dk.
Data is collected backend from retailers all over DK. The data entitites has very different attributes from product to product. The main task was therefore to build a platform that could support generic data without manual maintenence. In addition to that products should be easy to find - using search to drive the user experience.
FAST and Sitecore
We found that FAST in combination with Sitecore was perfect to suit the needs of this platform. The facetted search of FAST combined with creative design takes the search experience to a new level. Every user action on the portals results in a search in FAST.
Every category, portlet and even the menu is based on data in the search engine. Therefore categories and menus a maintained by the data! If data with new attributes is added to the search engine, the user interface will change a fx. a new category will apear.
Multiple brands
One the platform was built (using EDBpriser as case), the 3 other portals was built in a matter of days - 3 additional sites was setup in Sitecore and 3 additional data collections was created in FAST. This was possible because only data and design varied and the platform was genericly build.
The Xpriser portals are examples of how we think search should be utilized - as the platform to build on and as the main driver of the user experience.
